As you can see I have given up on using PHPNuke and have gone back to the old site methodology I was using previously. I'm rather disappointed in the software but am just too tired of dealing with the hackers, etc who wouldn't leave the site alone. Also, since the closing of MSN's Groups where we were hosting the Summitt Research Group and the opening of the new Summitt Family Online site we just haven't had as many visitors on the sites nor as much discussion so I want to regenerate that. I'll be making lots of changes here and hope you'll let me know what you like or don't like. paul Family News:
Chester Moody Summitt, my father, died about 6:30 PM Monday night in Cardwell, Missouri. Family visitation begins at 5 PM with Public visitation running from 6 to 9 PM at McDaniel Funeral Home, 108 North Main Street, Senath, Missouri, Thursday, April 30th. Funeral services will be at McDaniel Funeral Home in Senath, Missouri at 11 AM, Friday, May 1, 2009. The obituary ran in the April 30, 2009 Daily Dunklin Democrat. Received from Colleen & Roger Englert. Henry Clifford "H.C" Summitt, Jr., 78, died September 3, 2008 in Tallahassee. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. EDT Saturday, at Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. EDT Friday at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel (850-877-8191). Memorial contributions may be made to Pine Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, Lower Hawthorne Trail Cairo, Ga. 39828. H.C. was a resident of Tallahassee until he moved to Cairo in 2005. Before retiring, he was a former Gulf Life Insurance agent and manager, horse trainer and showman, and a plant manager in Tennessee. He was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church. And was also a Shriner and Mason. H.C. is survived by his wife of 60 and a half years, Frances Summitt of Cairo; one son, Jay H. Summitt, DVM (Marge Hilaman) of Thomasville; two daughters, Molly Pevey (Earl) of Thomaston, Ga.and Bebe S. Thedford (Ricky) of Coolidge, Ga.; one sister, Alice Englert of Tallahassee; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Pevey, Josh Speelman, Pamela Wilson, Taran Warren, Vann Pevey, Addie Summitt, Shane Thedford, Emma Thedford, Hank Summitt; six great grandchildren; and numerous special nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Vann Summitt. Maurine Burch Summitt, a long time resident of Searcy, Ark., from 1934 to 2000, died at the age of 102 on June 26, 2008 in Niceville, Fla. at the home of her son Paul. more... Received email from Paul Alvin Summitt (yep, another Paul Summitt, wow ). He has in his possession a bible from the 1850's with the following information listed: Solomon Summitt married Elizabeth D. Clayton May 19, 1851 (according to family tales her father was a civil war general) Children were: Minerva L. 4-8-1852 Laura C. 6-15-1854 Sarah E. 1/18/1856 died 8/30/1886 Alvin J. (Paul's grandfather) 4/1/1858 died 12/2/1945 Evangaline 2/24/1860 William J. 3/1/1862 died 8/8/1896 Charles L. 5/7/1864 died 8/7/1868 Joseph O. 7/16/1866 died 9/4/1899 George W. 12/5/1871 Received an email from Robin Summitt Hunt concerning listing below detailing the death of her son in 2005. Robin corrected our information. Nicholas Andrew Hewitt died November 5, 2005, not October 2005. We apologize for this error and offer our sincerest regrets.
Received these two pictures from Granville Summitt celebrating the birth of Maxwell Summitt Feinman, March 16, 2006, to Jimmie and Laurel Feinman, Lynchburg, VA. Clara Mai Summitt Agee passed away after a long illness on January 31, 2006. She was the daughter of Virgil A. Summitt. She was buried on February 3, 2006 at Belle Vernon Cemetery in Friendship, Tennessee. We thank her daughter, Carolyn Burnett Warren, for letting us know. While recently reviewing the latest rootsweb social security death index, Paul C. Summitt found La Rue Summitt Williford, born August 30, 1908, died Noveober 23, 2005, last residence Houston, Harris Co., TX, SS # 467-05-0339, issued in TX. La Rue was a Summit descendant of Francis Summit (1826-1892) who ultimately settled in Sims, Montgomery County, Arkansas with his large family. Her grandfather was William Haskell Summit, son of Francis and Emaline Shaffer, and the only son who did not make the trek to Arkansas with the rest of the family and stayed in Texas. Tampa, Florida. Martha Lynn Delaney Timby passed away after a year long battle with cancer. Lynn was the daughter of Jeanette Summitt Delaney. Tucson, Arizona. Nicholas Hewett, the son of Robin Elizabeth Summitt Hunt (daughter of Charles Kenneth Summitt), age 20 passed away. Exactly 26 years since my son Michael was born, he and his wife Melissa are the proud parents of a little girl. Davis Alison (Al) Summitt of Paragould, Arkansas died Monday, December 13, 2004 at Regional Medical Center of Northeast Arkansas in Jonesboro at the age of 72 years, 3 months, and two days. Al was the son of Herbert Alison and Irene E. Davis Summitt. Herbert was my dad's brother. I'll have a copy of the obituary on this site in another day or so. Dear Summitts, I have just returned from my father, Howard Lee Summit's, funeral. He would have been 82 today had he lived. He died on November 4th 2004 from metastatic liver, lung, bone and brain cancer, all coming from prostate cancer. He lived four weeks after his diagnosis.
